Program Descriptions

Spaghetti Eddie

Featuring: Chef Kathy
Week 1: June 25th - June 29th

You child will experience a fun-filled week of mixing, measuring, chopping, and pouring.  More than just cooking, the children will learn about basic nutrition, kitchen safety and healthy eating.  Each day we will prepare, create, and eat two or three recipes, make a cookbook page, and practice our cooking skills. At the end of the week, our Little Chefs will take home their very own aprons and chef hats.

Have you got a green thumb?

Featuring: Green Thumb
W eek 2: July 2nd - July 6th

Walking field trips will enable us to enjoy all that the Green Thumb has to offer. We will learn about the animals they have on site and also about many of their beautiful plants and flowers. We will also grow our own “green thumbs” when we learn how to take care of plants and flowers. We will play miniature golf and have a picnic lunch and ice cream. It will be a week of fun and excitement, right down the street!

Amazing Animals

Featuring: Animal Adventures
Week 3: July 9th - July 13th
Week 8 Aug 13th - Aug 17th

Mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects! Learning about animals is the theme for the week as the children explore and discover the animals around us. In addition to crafts, projects, and nature hikes, Animal Adventures will bring some amazing creatures to the JCC for a fun and interactive program.

Little Engineers LEGO® Program

Week 4: July 16th – July 20th
Week 6: July 30th - Aug 3rd

Partnering with Play-Well TEKnologies, a national LEGO Education partner, a certified LEGO instructor and JCC teachers will guide your child through a progressive series of ten projects (two each day). Working individually, in teams, and as a group, the children will use simple motors, gears, and pulleys from an inventory of more than 100,000 LEGO pieces. Instructors will provide individual assistance and instruction. As the projects are progressive and Play-Well TEKnologies uses the kits for classes and camps year-round, the kids are not able to take their creations home with them. We will, however, send your child home with photos of their projects.

I Have a Hammer!

Featuring: Woodworking specialist Bob Leduc
Week 5: July 23rd – July 27th

Bring out the handyman and inner creativity in your child. Each day this week, the children will build a classic wooden toy, then paint it and bring it home. Children will learn the basics of woodworking, including how to measure, hammer nails, and use sandpaper to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Photography and More

Featuring: Sue Carlsen and Kathy Petit
Week 7: Aug 6th - Aug 10th

Each child will be provided with a disposable digital camera to express him or herself through digital photography. This week, we will learn how to do scrapbooking, cropping and making frames. In addition, we will also enjoy a visit from Claytime. Your child will paint a fun piece of pottery.

End of the Summer Fun!
