We are pleased to announce the new Boroughs Jewish Community Center’s (BJCC) Enrichment Programs for the 2012/2013 school year. Our goal is to provide high quality programs that allow your child to grow and develop.
We have created these programs to supplement your child’s learning in creative ways. We work with your child to encourage imagination and creativity, build self-confidence and self-esteem, and to give them opportunities to cultivate their unique talents. Trained teachers and specialists lead each program, making your child’s experience a rewarding one.
Enrichment and Extended Day Programs may be scheduled on a per-day basis.
Lunch and Play (12:00PM to 1:30PM) - Children are grouped by age to eat their lunches with friends. Lunchtime is followed by free play on the outdoor playgrounds and/or in the Big Room. *Please note the Boroughs JCC is a nut free facility. Rest (1:15PM to 2:00PM) - We are required by the Department of Early Education and Care to offer children the opportunity to rest or enjoy a quiet activity. Each child staying for our extended programs will be asked to bring in a child size sleeping bag in a cloth or canvas bag clearly marked with their child’s name for this portion of the day. The children are not required to sleep but enjoy a quiet activity on their sleeping bag. No electronic games will be permitted. Enrichment Sessions (1:30PM to 4:00PM) We created these programs to supplement and extend your child’s learning. We work with your child to encourage imagination and creativity, build self-confidence, and to provide opportunities to cultivate unique talents. Trained teachers and specialists lead each program. Rest and Relaxation (1:30PM to 2:45PM) - This program offers the children an opportunity to rest and relax. They will enjoy classical music while relaxing on their sleeping bags. They will also be offered a variety of quiet activities. Nutrition and Fitness (3:30PM to 4:00PM) - This part of our day is our afternoon snack time. The children will eat a snack and participate in a gross motor activity. Children will be introduced to the food pyramid and our snack will be corresponding with the food pyramid. The children will identify which food category our snack correlates with and foster an understanding of making healthier choices. Afternoon Enrichment (4:00PM – 5:30PM) - This program offers children the ability to make choices in the activities they choose. Computer time, choice art and centers will be offered to the children. This program is the perfect way to end the day. |
Teamworks
Teamworks Instructional Program is more than just a great way to be active and have fun. The children foster basic skills, game play all while having fun. Children will participate in a wide variety of sports, games and activities. This program provides the opportunity for children to work as a team, understand good sportsmanship, and work on fine and gross motor skills. This program promotes building confidence in oneself and building self esteem.
FasTracKids
FasTracKids is a revolutionary enrichment education system. This program is designed to challenge kids to think productively while simultaneously developing their speaking, communication and leadership skills. An interactive white board or "smart board" is used to deliver information and guide the class on our exploration of 12 subjects. Hands on activities and experiments are used during every class to ensure the thought process is complete, because children learn by doing. At FasTracKids we focus on concepts and our goal is to help your child learn and truly understand each one that we explore, so they will have a strong educational foundation. Our programs are extremely engaging and fun and will turn your kids into FasTracKids! The subjects explored are Natural Science, Communication, Economics, Earth Science, Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Creativity, Speech, Drama and Art, Astronomy, Goals and Life Lessons, and Technology and How Things Work.
Little Picasso
Join us for a creative adventure! Each week will feature a different art medium. Children will experiment with texture in art, sculpture, watercolor, paint and develop an awareness of different techniques. Working collaboratively and independently to create beautiful masterpieces. This class encourages self-exploration while learning about a variety of art in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Books and Cooks
Children will foster an interest in cooking while exploring children literature. This literature based program promotes discussion and encompasses a delicious cooking activity each week. Children will be supplied chef hats and aprons and will create a wonderful cook book to share with their family at the end of the year. This program is designed to create a foundation for a life-long love of books and cooking.
Tennis and Swim
Olympic dreams begin! Your child will have instruction in both tennis and swimming at the Westboro Tennis and Swim Club right next door! Our staff will walk the children to the Tennis and Swim Club and help them get changed into their swimsuits. Red Cross certified swim instructors guide the children through a swim lesson at each child’s individual level. The children also learn the fundamentals of tennis, developing gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination and confidence. This program is designed to run all school year, with half of the year focused on tennis and the other half on swim.
Downward Puppies
Children will participate in an introduction to preschool Yoga. They will learn relaxation techniques, different core positions and a sense on inner peace. All children will be supplied with a yoga mat. This program will be fun, promote physical activity and a sense of well being.
Stage Stars
This program gives a child the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively with their classmates to foster skills associated with performing, set design, and being part of an audience. Children will also participate in discussions and listen to the ideas of others. Periodically a performance will be given to the parents at pick-up. We will learn simple dance routines, finger plays, action songs, poetry, and performing a play or skit. Lights, Camera, Action this program will bring out the star in all of us!
Boogie Woogie
This program is perfect for the music enthusiast. Children will play instruments using different beats, tempos and interpretation. Children will sing and dance expressively through music. Children will also have the opportunity to experience different forms of music and create instruments from around the world.
Measure Up
Children will foster special awareness and use the concepts of non-standard and standard measurements. They will use numbers in a meaningful context and use such concepts as more or less and estimation. Children will make predictions based on previous experience and will learn to use vocabulary associated with describing objects in relation to one another. Children will be supplied with tools for measuring throughout the program.
We Can Built It
Children will be able to create and build using different mediums. The use of recycled materials, traditional blocks and much more are used for our creations. Children will work independently and collaboratively. This program promotes critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills. This program fosters self-confidence and self accomplishment. Can we Build it? Yes we can!
