About our Teachers and Staff


Penelope Aponte
teaches in the Bears classroom and is part of our Enrichment Programs, leading the Little Picasso class. Penny has a B.A. degree in Psychology and a B.A. degree in Sociology from Assumption College School of Science.   Penny also works with youth in the Worcester area as a counselor. She brings a warm and patient manner to the classroom. She also brings creative and fun ideas to the center. Penny is quick to come up with an engaging game for the children to play. Say “Bonjour” to Penny when you see her at the Boroughs JCC.





Dianne Asher
is the Lead Teacher in the Penguins (four-year-olds) classroom.  She has her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from SUNY Plattsburgh.  She has taken man
y graduate classes from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction and Children’s Literacy.  Dianne taught Special Needs Preschool in a variety of programs in New York and Massachusetts.  She also teaches Sunday school at Beth Tikvah Synagogue. Dianne’s children attended the JCC when they were younger, and she was so taken by the school she did not want to leave when they finished.  Dianne has been teaching at the Boroughs JCC for over ten years.  She loves seeing the look of excitement on the children’s faces when they discover that they have mastered a new skill.



Cindy Avergon is the Boroughs JCC Judaic specialist and a teacher for the Penguins (four-year-olds). She has been teaching at the Boroughs JCC since 1994 and has taught toddlers all the way through K- Kids. In addition to teaching at the Boroughs JCC, Cindy has been the Coordinator of Religious Education at Beth Tikvah Synagogue since 2009, providing leadership, curriculum and program development. She has been on the Beth Tikvah staff since 1996, teaching in all grades Gan (Pre-K) through High School. Cindy also taught Sunday school at Congregation Mishkan Tefila in Chestnut Hill, where she created and executed High Holiday curriculum for Pre-K through Grade 2 from 1980 until 2011. Her background is in Consumer Economics and Education with a B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  Before coming to Boroughs JCC, Cindy was Head of Admissions at Bryman School at the Brookline campus. Cindy and her husband, Brad, have three children, Brandon, Justin, and Maddison. They live in Westborough.   "I truly love being part of the children's growth and development, but most of all... I love those hugs!"


Susan Carlsen
is the Early Childhood Program Director at the Boroughs JCC. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Education and Liberal Studies from Bay Path College. She has been in the field of early education for 17 years.  Eleven of those years she has worked as a director while being certified through EEC and a long- standing member of the National Association of Young Children.  Sue has been been married for twenty-nine years to her husband, Tom. She is the proud mother of four grown children and also has four grandchildren.  Tom and Sue adopted a three-year old little girl that they have raised since birth and is a wonderful addition to our family and teaches us something new every day. “I am very passionate about working with young children and their families.  I truly believe that by offering children, at an early age, quality education in a nurturing and fun environment will positively impact their educational experiences throughout their lives.”  


Anjana Chennagiri is the assistant teacher in the Puppies class (2.9-4 y.o). She has been working at Boroughs JCC Preschool for almost 2 years now and she loves every moment she spends here. She states: “The preschoolers are adorable and smart!  I like being silly with them and make them laugh. The best part of being with preschoolers is to watch them grow socially and academically over the course of a year.” 

Anjana comes from India from a family, who runs home tutorials for kids from ages 5 to 15. She has been working with kids for over a decade teaching them how to read, to write, and to have fun. She has an Associates degree in Science form an Indian University.   Anjana is registered with the Department of Early Education and Childhood. She enjoys a diverse classroom and to learn about different cultures. According to her Boroughs JCC is the best place to experience that.

She is a busy mom of two girls, ages 5 and 9. She loves practicing yoga, dancing and cooking.


Lauren Cloutier began her work at the JCC in November of the year 2015. She has spent her time at the JCC in many of the classrooms and has come to get to know many of the children here very well. She is our Lead "Books and Cooks" teacher, while also teaching many other enrichments as well. Lauren started her Early Childhood Education Career at Quinsigamond Community College. She spent her Sophomore year student teaching at City View Discovery School Preschool and The Bancroft School Kindergarten in Worcester. Also, she had perviously worked as a preschool teacher in the 4 and 5 year old room at the Guild of St. Agnes.  Lauren currently attends Bay Path College to attain her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education.



Anna Glaser teaches the Transitional Kindergarten (K-Kids) Class at the Boroughs JCC.  Her background is in Retail Management & Retail Banking.  She holds an A.S. Degree in Business Administration from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke Massachusetts. In 1994, her son, David, attended the JCC Preschool.  By the following year, Anna had started assistant teaching in the Toddlers Class. In 1996, Anna attended Mass Bay Community College and became certified in Early Childhood Education by the State of Massachusetts. From 1996 to 2012, Anna taught the four-year-olds class at the Boroughs JCC Preschool. Anna volunteers her time with Horizons for Homeless Children.  She also donates her time as a Play-space Activities Leader at various shelters for at-risk children. Anna and her husband, Andy, reside in Westborough with their 2 sons, Rob and David. "Over the years, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the young children. I am particularly excited about teaching the K-Kids and look forward to helping these children prepare to take their next step up to Kindergarten".

Kim Goldman is the Lead Teacher of the Transitional Kindergarten (K-Kids) class at the Boroughs JCC.  Kim earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.  Kim began her career at the JCC in 1995, as a substitute teacher.  She has taught all of the age groups at the Boroughs JCC. . Kim and her husband, Carl, have two children named Jared and Samantha.  Samantha attended the JCC in 1994. Kim’s passion has always been to work with young children.  She loves coming to school each day to see the smiles on the children’s faces and the wonderful stories they all share.


Jessica Guertin has been working in early childhood education since 2005.  She started as an assistant teacher at Auburn Youth and Family Services after school program, working with children from diverse backgrounds.  She furthered her education and chose to teach preschool for the Boroughs JCC.  While holding a few different positions over the years here at the JCC, she is currently our Puppies Classroom Teacher.  Jessica loves working with young children and watching them learn and grow.  She has 3 young children at home herself, who keep her very busy while she isn't at work.  


Laurie Hitry
is one of our new assistant teachers in the Ladybugs (toddler) class. Laurie also helps with our afternoon Enrichments. ​Laurie has been a preschool teacher for over 15 years at Temple Israel in Natick. Her summers are spent working at both overnight, Camp Pembroke,​ and day camps, Camp Sewataro​. She loves watching the children grow and develop. Laurie lives in Framingham with her husband David and their three children: Courtney, Jared and Lindsay. Laurie is very excited to meet all the wonderful smiling faces.






Teresa Johnson previously worked at the Boroughs JCC as a Front Office Assistant, now she is an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Early Childhood Programs. She is a retired registered nurse with two grown children and five grandchildren. “My husband and I enjoy vacationing in Aruba every year and traveling throughout the states."

alina Katsman is the Lead Teacher for the Ladybugs (Toddlers) class. She received her Master's Degree from the Pedagogical State University in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia, where she was born. She taught math in Middle and High Schools in St. Petersburg’s for 15 years. In 2000, her family moved to the United States, where she started her career as a Toddler Teacher in Yal-Day-New Jewish Day Care Center in Brighton.  She worked there for 9 years before joining our Boroughs JCC team. Galina is married with two children, a son and a daughter. Galina was looking for the best preschool in the area for her daughter, and she found it! Her daughter became a student at Boroughs JCC and Galina... a teacher!

Anna Le Tiec is Program and Office Coordinator, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Preschool's Front Office. Accomplished administrative and marketing professional, she previously worked as Marketing Manager and later as  General Manager of a small though international music distribution Company. Last year she worked as Executive Assistant to the Artistic Administrator of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Anna earned her Bachelor degree in Political Sciences and Japanese Civilization from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) and an MBA from the Paris Graduate School of Management (Paris, France).





Preeni Navaratna
teaches in the Bunnies classroom. Prenni has a BS degree in Biology & Chemistry and earned Diploma in Montessori Education. She is also EEC certified. Since 2005, Preeni has been a Toddler and Pre-school teacher. Prior to that, she was a full time mother for 10 years. Preeni was born in Sri Lanka. Both her parents were teachers. After Preeni got married she migrated to USA. Her husband Dr. Vincent is a scientist dedicated his life to find a cure for cancer. Preeni has two teenage daughters. Her oldest daughter is an undergraduate at Northeastern University in Boston, majoring Neuroscience. Her younger daughter is a freshman at Algonquin high school. Preeni has lived in Michigan, New York and Atlanta for 9 years prior to moving to Northborough. Preeni enjoys cooking, travelling, photography, and taking care of their dog Sammy. Preeni always admires different cultures and family values. She is caring and compassionate person with three ideals in mind to lead her life.  “Good thoughts, good words and good deeds.”

Christine Pacios is the Lead Teacher in the Bears (four-year-olds) classroom.  She graduated from Wheelock College with a B.A. and Master's in Education and Human Development.  Chrissy is teaching certified for Grades 1 through 6.  She also is a Lead Teacher Preschool Certified from the Department of Early Education and Care. Prior to working at the Boroughs JCC, Chrissy was a substitute teacher for the town of Northborough. Chrissy currently lives in Northborough with her husband, Larry, and two sons Christopher and Patrick.  “I have always had a passion for teaching.  I hope to inspire my students to not only grow academically, but also to become confident and happy individuals.”

Carol Roseberry teaches in the Penguins (four-year-olds) classroom. She is a graduate of Worcester State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She first began working at the JCC in September of 1999, as part of the PALS program (Play and Learn Kindergarten Session). Carol later married and took time off to raise her family. While staying home to raise her children, she volunteered at the elementary school and taught religious education in her town. Carol then started teaching four-year-olds at the Salter School and JCC, both in Worcester. “I believe that people's career paths are determined by many factors. For me, it is the genuine love to teach young children, which has guided me to become an early childhood educator. Along with taking pride in my work at the Boroughs JCC, I am most proud of my own children and the adults that they have become."

Karen Steinberg
joined the staff at the Boroughs JCC as a substitute in all classes and most recently as an assistant in the Bears (three-year-olds). Karen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from Penn State University and worked as a Registered Dietitian in several Boston area hospitals for 8 years before starting a family. Over the last few years, she has volunteered extensively in the public elementary school. She has always loved being around and working with children-from growing up babysitting to working as an overnight camp counselor. She loves the preschool environment and is having so much fun getting to know the kids and families at the Boroughs JCC. Karen enjoys cooking, baking cupcakes, exercising, and spending time with her family.


Chanhna Tang 
is the L​ead t​eacher in the B​unnies (3 year olds) classroom. She's pursuing a degree in early childhood​ at ​Worcester S​tate ​U​niversity. She has a passion for business, early childhood and retail management. She has a background in retail management for 9 y​ear​s at ​C​laire's accessories. Chanhna has been in the field of early childhood​ education​ for 10 yea​rs. Starting as an intern at a kindergarten classroom at Elm ​P​ark ​C​ommunity S​chool then got her preschool certification at the YWCA where she worked for 5 yea​rs and still helps out with camp during the summer 2 days a week. She is well rounded with many experiences as an E​nrichments teacher for ​Science, S​panish, Stage S​tars, and ​Build It. She started working at the Boroughs JCC in August of 2013. Chanhna spends her time working her many jobs, volunteering as an activities helper at a nursing home twice every other week and volunteer for habitat for humanity. "​I love to travel to experience new places and learn about different culture. I enjoy cooking it's my most relaxing moment where I get to try and have fun with different recipes. My favorite thing to do is hike up Mt Monadnock and rock climb at the central gym when I have a day off."​


Patti Tenanes
has been part of the Boroughs JCC teaching staff for the past couple of years. Patti joined the staff as a substitute teacher and has been supporting the Bunnies (three-years-olds) classroom for the few months. Patti has lived in Westborough for over 24 years. She has three children all in th
eir twenties and living out of the home. A kitty named Sadie keeps her busy. Patti taught preschool at the Methodist preschool for seventeen years, and before that worked for the JCC downtown in a toddler program and subbed at various preschools and daycares. Patti loves jazzercise, walking, knitting and as of the last year heading south to Florida for a few months in the winter. She looks forward to watching you children grow and learn.
