The Boroughs JCC is pleased to announce that the National Association for Early Childhood Education (www.naeyc.org) has awarded the Boroughs JCC Preschool four Special Commendations for its early childhood programs.  The commendations are a result of NAEYC’s accreditation process, reflecting areas with perfect scores that include adoption of emerging standards and best practices.

“We are incredibly proud of the entire staff and appreciate the support we receive from the community and our Board of Directors”, noted Sue Carlsen, Director of Early Childhood Programs at the Boroughs JCC.  “NAEYC accreditation is an on-going process that requires continuous improvements in curriculum, staff development, teaching methods, facilities, and operations.  The special commendations recognize a great team effort.”

Among ten primary areas of evaluation for accreditation, the Boroughs JCC Preschool received special commendations in the following four areas:

Relationships:  For promoting positive relationships among all children and adults to encourage each child’s sense of individual worth and belonging as part of a community and to foster each child’s ability to contribute as a responsible community member

Teaching:  For using developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate and effective teaching approaches that enhance each child’s learning and development in the context of the program’s curriculum goals.

Community Relations:  For effectively establishing and maintaining reciprocal relationships with agencies and institutions that can support it in achieving its goals for the curriculum, health promotion, children’s transitions, inclusion, and diversity.

Leadership and Management:  For administering a program efficiently and effectively, ensuring that all involved persons, staff, children, and families are included.

“Given the cost and the scope of the effort, many preschools have dropped accreditation completely”, noted Michelle Friedberg, Vice President for Early Childhood Programs.  “Our continued participation with NAEYC demonstrates our desire to invest and to provide the best toddler and preschool programs in our area.  We welcome the on-going, objective evaluation or our program and our results.”

The Boroughs JCC Preschool offers toddler, preschool, and Pre-K programs for ages 15 months through 5 years old.  Beyond the core preschool hours, the school offers a wide range of extended day and enrichment, including full-day toddler programs.  Flexible scheduling lets parents enroll children for 2 to 5 days per week.

Parents interested in learning more about the JCC Preschool program, should call Sue Carlsen at 508-366-6121 x23 or email her at director@boroughsjcc.org.  Enrollment is currently open for the 2013/14 school year and Summer programs.
